When Can I Buy Health Insurance?

Annual/Open Enrollment Period depends on the state you reside in, but for Michigan, it’s Nov 1 – Jan 15. Individual and family health insurance can be purchased or changed during this time.

Special Enrollment Period (SEP) is a qualifying life-changing event that allows you to enroll in a new health plan (if your current group insurance plan goes away or is canceled, you move, get married, have a child, etc.)

Initial Enrollment Period (Aging into Medicare) occurs three months before your 65th birthday, the month of, and three months afterward. You may also be eligible sooner if you have a disability, End of Stage Renal Disease, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
